Below is a table of audited expenses which show that Richard was 628th out of 645 MPs in the expenses he claimed in 2007/08 (1st is the most expensive and 645 is the least expensive). This means that he is one of the most cost effective MPs in the House of Commons. Richard does not claim the second home allowance. He did claim a small amount in the first two years in office, but in total has claimed only £6873.87 out of an available allowance of almost £100,000.00 over 4 years. Most of the staffing allowance goes on his team in his Newbury office who provide a service to his constituents on a whole range of issues including benefits, housing, immigration matters and the CSA. They process around 400 telephone calls, letters and emails each week on a very wide variety of problems as well as covering all Richard's correspondence and diary work. Richard does not employ any member of his family. He has three full-time employees and one part-time employee.
The website theyworkforyou.com monitors all MPs' voting records and you can see how they rate Richard here. On the attached sheets you will be able to see the breakdown on how the Additional Cost Allowance (second home allowance) Incidental Expenses Provision (office running costs) and Communications Allowance has been spent. Receipts which have been published by the House of Commons Authorities are also available on the pages for viewing. Richard has also published a breakdown of his expenses for 2008/9 and the current year (2009/2010). Please note these are un-audited and therefore subject to change. Receipts for these years will be added to the website when they are released by the House of Commons authorities.
