
Richard is a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee, which consists of 14 members of Parliament (8 Labour, 4 Conservative, 2 Liberal Democrat)
The Home Affairs Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Home Office and its associated public bodies; and the administration and expenditure of the Attorney General's Office, the Treasure Solicitor's Department, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Serious Fraud Office (but excluding individual cases and appointments and advice given within government by Law Officers).
The Committee has published a report into the workings of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate. This was the culmination of many months work. It severely criticised the Home Office for many failings in the whole area of immigration control.
The Committee has also taken evidence on the response to the bombings in London last year. It has also contributed to new sentencing guidelines on rape and violent crime.
The Committee has started taking evidence on a major investigation into young black males and the criminal justice system.
